Hiring the Help – Why finding the right maid service for you shouldn’t be so hard
So you’ve decided to hire a maid service to help with the heavy, necessary cleaning that you just don’t have time for. You’ve pondered about it for a good while and decided, you just need the help. Life gets in the way and cleaning takes a back seat. But cleaning is necessary. It’s important to have a clean home for obvious reasons but it also keeps us healthy and less stressed when things are clean and organized. It is just a fact of life for anyone. Cleaning is a necessary evil that everyone must tackle.
Now that you’ve let the guilt walk out the door, the idea that you actually need the help has subsided, you need to figure out WHO you are going to hire. And that is no easy feat. There are thousands of maid services and cleaning companies in every city across this country. If you Google “maid service” or “cleaning company” just for your town, you are guaranteed to see tons of them pop up. So how can you choose? It seems so daunting but there are some tips to help you find the right cleaning service to fit your needs. It may take some time and numerous phone calls and website visits, but you will find the perfect help for your cleaning needs.
You’ve done some searching on the Internet and came up with a few contenders (you may have liked their website or if you called, the person on the other end had a pleasant voice). Next, you need to narrow it down. You do this by interviewing your potential cleaning service. Interview, you say? Why yes. You are hiring a person or company to enter your home and clean your private space, why wouldn’t you interview them?
Here are some tips during your interview process (this can be in person or on the phone but it is still an interview):
Do you have proof of insurance?
Asking a cleaning service for proof of insurance and is a no brainer. If they are insured and honest, they will have no problem supplying this information to you. If they don’t have insurance, run. That is a risk that you just shouldn’t be willing to take.
How long have you been in business?
It’s important to know how long the service has been in business so that you can gauge the level of professionalism they can supply. The longer someone knows a business, the more apt they are to do the job right. They’ve done their trial and error, you don’t want it to start with you.
How many people do you have on each assignment?
It’s important to know how many people will enter your home, especially if they will be cleaning when you aren’t home. Usually a team of 2 or 3 is sufficient. They will get the job done quicker, keep an eye on each other and be out the door a lot faster.
Do you do background checks on your employees?
This one is pretty important. You want to know that the type of people entering your home are honest, hard working people. That isn’t asking for too much.
What is your cleaning process like?
It’s important to HOW they clean your home. What equipment and supplies, what they clean and what they don’t, how they clean something. These are important questions you want to ask because remember, you are doing the hiring and they are entering your home to clean.
